It almost makes me want to move to Montana
So I heard a story on NPR today about Governor Schweitzer of Montana, who is taking a stand, along with the rest of his state, in saying the emperor has no clothes (see article here). The Department of Homeland Security is really trying to push this “Real ID” thing: a universal identification card that, while it might seem like it makes this country more secure, really has more of a Big Brother feel to it than anything else. Gov. Schweitzer has a lot of good points, especially with his bit about how we have no standard way of proving a birth certificate is real…plus, I actually giggled when he interrupted Michele Norris with “Blah, blah, blah, supposed to be the deadline.” Gov. Schweitzer, let me know when you want to run for president. I’ll vote for you.
But seriously, why are there not more states standing up with Montana? I see Maine, South Carolina, New Hampshire, and hey, look, there’s my neighbor Delaware. But NJ? Oh, no, we’ve got way too corrupt a government to actually do something that might be in the best interest of the people.
